Building a Deck is Not for the Faint of Heart

The past weekend and on into this week, Len has continued to sweat over the deck.  Today he actually put down the very first plank.  Sounds easy, but it wasn't.

Starting on the weekend, the big front beam was put up.  Cath worked on sanding and putting varnish on the posts.  Then the blocking needed doing, and more fiddling around with flashings, etc.  Cath learned how to measure and cut using the cut-off saw and how to crawl along on the boards up on the joists to do some varnishing.  Len struts around on those same joists without boards and makes it look so easy.

Len is excited to put more decking up tomorrow.  There are still blocks to be put in place and nails to add to the hurricane clips.  But the decking will be an event.   Stay tuned....
