Long Weekend Work Visitors

Thursday evening: Arrival and orientation to the work project.  Tour of the site.
Friday morning: Assignment of tasks and beginning of work.
Mom and Dad started painting the window trim and soon had a system worked out.
Just because you are "of a certain age" doesn't get you out of work
Meanwhile, Len gave direction (?) to Dave as they completed the garage soffits.
They also put in wire for Christmas lights
Friday afternoon: Reassignment of tasks.
Doris and Mom became the painting duo
Serious business
Len and Dave started the soffits on the West end of the deck.  Notice that the "supervisor" has the volunteer help up the ladder.
Has Len developed a sudden fear of heights?
In between coats of paint, there was a chance to enjoy a good book and relaxing by the fire.  Yes, fire. It was a cooler than average day.
Cozy
Dad was outside limbering up his joints by riding around on my bike.
Lookin' good

We decided to bar-b-que some smokies instead of building a fire as it was threatening rain and not too warm.  Then we played a fun game of "You've Been Sentenced" that was given to us by Melissa and the girls when they visited.  So ended the first full day.

Saturday: More of the same work-wise!

Doris and Mom carried out the finished trim pieces

Stacking them out of the way
Sunday: Doris and Mom continued to work on the window trim.  There was also time to relax and visit.  We enjoyed lots of good food, libations and conversation.
Proof that some work was done

Also on Sunday, the guys finished the West soffit and completed the last one on the East end.

Dad took on the task of removing and flipping over a board in the deck that was flaking. He also tightened up some of the screws that had worked loose.
On his bad knees too!
Sunday dinner was enjoyed outside in the warm sunshine.  We shared ribs, chicken, zucchini casserole made by Doris, fresh yellow beans, new potatoes and fruit crumble for dessert.  Mom and Doris had also brought some goodies - cake and squares - so we were never hungry.  Dave, Doris, Len and I also took a nice bike ride in the trees on the other side of the Walker Valley.

Monday: Further reassignment of tasks.  No more soffits to do!  "Let's see what the window trim looks like, since we have all those painted pieces of trim." "OK"
Cutting out the window ledge

Fitting the ledge, or stool, as it is actually named

Much measuring and fitting

First window is done!

The finished dining room window.
The excitement of getting that window done left us all speechless.   We agreed it looked pretty good.  We had a nice visit in the evening before turning in.

Tuesday: The gang leaves for home.  It is quite a drive via Lillooet and Pemberton and then the ferry to the Sunshine Coast.
Ready to roll out before 8 am.
HUGE THANKS to the work crew, not only for all the great progress, but for all the food and fun.  Come back soon!

  2. Guess I'll have to find the game.
Everything is looking so nice - love the shots of people sitting and enjoying the wonderful space your teams have created! Has Cath started her blog on the garden? When you start looking for things to occupy your "free time" you can check out Sarah's blog - pictures mostly - of our doings - http://indianacountry.blogspot.com/
Looking forward to your finishing posts.
