The house basement is done!
A long day of work paid off. We set a goal to place the last block in the house, and did it! Mind you, it took until 9:30. We had Jeff, our engineer up to consult on the actual number of required courses, and as a result we knocked off one level. As it is, the house is going to be quite high out of the ground at some points. We also asked him about the garage, to make sure that we really needed to continue building the foundation all around. Jeff suggested that it was best to build right up to under the slab. We are also going to build a second wall of foundation within the garage to support some stairs that are going there. So although we have finished the house blocks, there is still a bit to do on the garage. One thing about working inside the foundation of white blocks - it is hot! The sun is reflected like it is with snow. Also, it provides good insulation, so shouting from down the hill doesn't help. Much walking up ladders for Len, back and forth for Cath. After it was done, dinner was a bison burger, made that much more tasty due to being very hungry by the time we finished working for the day. The pictures here show Cath at her newest job, that of sawing the blocks to fit. When it is only foam, that isn't too hard. When it involves the internal plastic ribs, Len gets to saw! You will also see from the pictures that Len is the guy to get up a ladder. You will see the window which will be just above ground level, under the deck on the south side of the house. The shot of the foundation wall was taken from down the hill a bit, toward where we have parked the RV.
