Got up this morning to a downpour and cooler temperatures. Dave, Doris and Bradley stopped buy to say goodbye as they had decided to make their way to the coast today instead of tomorrow. The sun finally poked out around one and I got busy finishing up the rods and the double top plates. You can see, in the photos, a number of pockets or notches that will be used to set the big beams in. All of these are double plated as well so a fair bit of high wire stuff going on. You'll notice a lot of holes in these walls. We cut these to attach chains so we could hoist them up into position.
Notch with lots of lumber to set the beams on. The two chunks of 2x6 are temporary ties until the wall is truly secure. |
Here you can see the rods going up through the wall |
The new scaffold is quite stable and I feel a lot safer on it at these altitudes. I returned the socket and ratchet to my neighbour, Rusty, and took a picture from street level of the castle Aune. It will be a lot better with siding on to hide all that white.
Tomorrow we will be unwrapping the Timberframe bits to start laying them out for assembly. Simon is coming up from Langley around noon to give us a quick lesson on assembly. I have to say that it was a good thing we couldn't get the crane when we wanted it as the weather is going to improve considerably from here on out.
Cathryns' Dad called and said that they wished they were 20 years younger so they could be here to lend a hand. Of course they are old pros since they did the same thing themselves when they were younger. I'm sure next spring, when we are working on the place ourselves, we can count on a visit from them.
Till tomorrow
Len
